Program Description
Poder Latina is a culturally-based program designed by the Latino Community Center to serve the unique needs of Hispanic girls ages 14-21 living on Milwaukee's near south side. Each week, girls have several opportunities to participate in activities at the center that are girl based. Collaborations and specialized curricula help focus activities on issues that are important for Hispanic girls, including family values, body image, goal setting, self-reflection, teamwork and community leadership. The latest addition to the Poder Latina Program is Baby Think It Over. This program will teach participants beginning concepts of caring for a baby. Each participant is given a realistic, electronic baby doll to take care of for several days during which she is responsible for constant care.
